Six conversation starters

Fake iMessage Conversation Generator — Free Presets

Write a whole fake iMessage conversation with six editable presets, blue or green bubbles, and light or dark mode. Download a PNG for stories, memes and mockups.

Make your first conversation screenshot

Step 1

Choose a starting thread

Tap a preset such as Late reply or Wrong number. It replaces the current messages and contact, so download a version you want to keep before trying the next idea.

Step 2

Give each side a voice

Edit the message fields and use You or Them to choose the sender. Add a message for a second thought, delete an unnecessary explanation, or move a reply with the arrows.

Step 3

Choose the phone appearance

Keep blue iMessage bubbles or choose SMS green. Switch between light and dark without rewriting your conversation. The group preset also supplies names for the other people in the thread.

Step 4

Review and save

Read the preview from top to bottom, check that the final joke is visible, and download the PNG. Label it as fictional when posting it where someone could mistake it for a real exchange.

A whole conversation has a beginning, a turn and a payoff

A fake iMessage convo works best when it feels like two people responding to each other, rather than a collection of unrelated captions. Begin with a small, understandable situation: someone wants to know whether dinner is happening, a parcel has arrived, or a houseplant has survived. The second person changes the direction of that situation. The last reply makes the change clear. Readers should understand the setup without needing a paragraph outside the screenshot.

The presets above are short scripts you can rewrite, not locked templates. Late reply turns an ordinary household question into a delayed confession. Plans falling through gives both friends an excuse to stay home. Wrong number follows an unexpected report about goats. Delivery update uses an implausibly small hiding place. Landlord keeps the joke in a maintenance conversation. Group plan lets several friends revise a picnic. None needs a famous person’s name to be funny.

Pace the thread with short bubbles and one longer thought

Texting has a rhythm. A quick question, a brief answer, and a second message from the same sender often read more naturally than alternating paragraphs of equal length. Try splitting “yes, but I need ten minutes” into two bubbles if the pause changes the joke. Keep most replies short enough to understand at a glance. One longer message can carry the background information, especially when the other person answers it with a dry two-word reply.

The generator keeps consecutive messages together and gives the final bubble in a run its tail. The Delivered label beneath your latest sent message provides a small visual pause. Let that gap do some of the storytelling: an unanswered question can be the ending. It is a status label, not a programmable delay or proof that anyone received a real message. For a simpler starting point without presets, open the fake text message generator.

Choose blue, green, light or dark with a reason

Blue is the familiar iMessage look; green evokes a text conversation outside iMessage. Neither colour tells the reader who is right in the conversation, and green alone is not proof of somebody’s exact phone model. Choose the appearance that suits your fictional scene. A delivery notice may look more at home in green, while a late-night exchange between friends may use blue against black. Keep the appearance consistent across screenshots in the same story.

Light mode leaves plenty of white space around the thread. Dark mode uses a black background and dark received bubbles, which can suit an evening scene or a dark video composition. These switches preserve your writing. The dedicated dark-mode iMessage generator starts on black. To change the phone interface itself, rather than only the bubble colour, use the Android message generator.

Write for storytime, memes and useful mockups

For a storytime video, make a screenshot for each important exchange instead of squeezing an entire week into one phone screen. Give the audience time to read the longest reply. For a meme, remove the messages that merely repeat information; the punchline usually lands better when there is less material above it. For a product mockup, write a realistic support question and a helpful answer using invented customer details. A believable scene does not require exposing someone’s private messages.

Group conversations need an extra check: can a reader tell who is speaking without memorising every avatar? The Group plan preset assigns received messages to named participants, and the group chat page offers a dedicated starting thread. For the scenes around the conversation, add dialogue to a picture with the chat bubble generator, or turn a public-post joke into a clearly fictional tweet mockup.

Check the final screen, and make the fiction clear

The preview is a phone-sized frame, not an infinitely tall transcript. When the thread becomes long, the newest messages remain visible and older material can move beyond the top. Review the first visible line before downloading: if it refers to an explanation that has disappeared, shorten the setup or split the scene into two screenshots. Check spelling, sender direction, contact name and the final line after every major revision.

Use invented conversations for comedy, fiction and design. Do not present these exports as evidence that a real person said something, and avoid private phone numbers, addresses or identifying details. A short “fictional conversation” caption can prevent confusion when an image travels beyond its original audience. The image is drawn in your browser; read the privacy policy for site-wide details, and contact us if a control or export does not behave as expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a fake iMessage conversation?
Choose a preset, edit the contact and message fields, then download the preview as a PNG. You control both sides with the You and Them buttons. Start with a clear question and add only the replies needed to make the scene understandable.
Do preset chips add messages or replace the thread?
They replace the thread and contact with the selected script. Group plan also enables a group with named participants; a one-to-one preset switches back. Download an existing version before changing presets if you want to keep both versions.
Can I write my own conversation instead?
Yes. Every preset message is editable. Delete the sample replies, add your own, or rewrite one line at a time. You can reorder the bubbles and change their sender, so the starting script does not restrict the final conversation.
Can I use green bubbles and dark mode together?
Yes. Bubble colour and background appearance are separate controls. Choose SMS green and then Dark to combine them. Your messages remain in place when you change either setting, so you can compare the two looks before downloading.
Why does a long thread hide the beginning?
The export uses a fixed phone screen, so an oversized conversation is anchored near the newest messages. Shorten the thread or make separate screenshots for different moments. Important context should be visible in the same frame as its payoff.
Can I put a loading picture into the conversation?
Yes. Use the Photo icon beside a message to turn it into a loading placeholder. The text field is disabled while Photo is selected, and switching back restores its text. The loading-picture page begins with an example of that meme.
Is this a real messaging service?
No. The tool creates an image and does not send texts, contact another phone or produce genuine delivery receipts. Treat every generated exchange as fiction. Do not use a mock screenshot to impersonate someone or claim that an invented exchange actually happened.
